Biden has stage 4 cancer and still hasn't met his youngest granddaughter

On Sunday, it was announced that former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. With the diagnosis, many are questioning whether the former US leader will take the time to finally meet his youngest grandaughter, Navy Roberts.

The young daughter of Lunden Roberts and Hunter Biden was profiled in a July 2024 Telegraph piece, and her mother told the outlet that she "wants a connection with him so bad," even picking up a postcard with Biden’s face on it when told during a visit to the nation’s capital that she could pick anything out of the gift shop. 

Biden briefly acknowledged the existence of his then-four-year-old grandchild for the first time in 2023, stating, "This is not a political issue, it's a family matter. Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy," but that’s as far as Biden has acknowledged her existence. 

The mother and daughter had visited Washington, DC over the summer, during which Navy asked whether they would be going to the White House to see Joe Biden. Lunden Roberts recalled, "She said ‘we need to stop by and see my grandpa, can we stop by and see my grandpa?’"

Roberts recalled saying, "I was like, ‘Oh, honey, he’s not here, he’s in Atlanta,’" to which Navy replied, "Maybe next time we come he’ll be in town." The Telegraph concluded in its piece: "For the sake of the little girl who disappears to her room clutching a picture of her estranged grandfather, we can only hope at some point he invites her in."

In June 2023, Hunter Biden reached a settlement with Lunden Roberts over child custody, which includes Navy being barred from using the Biden family name. In December, Lunden Roberts revealed to The Times that Hunter Biden has not met his daughter in person, and while he and his daughter have spoken to each other, they hadn’t spoke at that point in around eight months.

Joe Biden’s personal office revealed on Sunday, "Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone." The statement added, "While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management."
