Liberal actor Robert De Niro appeared on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher this week where nearly broke down in tears taking shots at former President Donald Trump, calling him a “total monster” and expressing his reluctance to relive the emotions of Trump's initial election victory in 2016. Trump responded that he was a “low IQ individual.”

“The bottom line is, it’s Biden versus Trump. We want to live in a world that we want to live in and enjoy living in, or live in a nightmare,” De Niro asserted. “Vote for Trump and you’ll get the nightmare, vote for Biden and we’ll be back to normalcy.”

During the discussion on Maher’s show, attention was drawn to the current presidential race dynamics, with Maher questioning why Trump is currently leading in the polls against Biden.

“So why is Trump winning?” Maher asked De Niro.

“I don’t know,” De Niro responded. “I just don’t want to feel the way I did, and many of us don’t, after the election in 2016 where we couldn’t believe that it happened. The guy is a total monster.”

Following De Niro’s remarks, Trump fired back on Truth Social by saying the actor has a “terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

"Such a stupid sounding guy, a low IQ individual!” Trump added.

Maher’s questions about Trump currently "winning" was in reference to a recent New York Times poll that shows Trump leading Biden 48% to 43%. The poll also showcased significant shifts in various demographic groups, including increased support for Trump from women voters, a stronger standing among black voters, and a notable lead among Latino voters compared to Biden.

De Niro has been an outspoken critic of the former president for many years, attacking him numerous times during public appearances. Most recently, De Niro used his onstage appearance at the 2023 Gotham awards to attack Trump, stating, “The former president lied to us more than 30,000 times during his four years in office, and he’s keeping up the pace with his current campaign of retribution.”

Trump later responded to these comments on Truth Social by calling De Niro a “total loser” whose talents “have greatly diminished.”
