Police in Quebec City have made a historic arrest: a woman with coronavirus who defied a quarantine order was apprehended on Friday according to CBC.

The woman was arrested on Friday afternoon for walking outside despite the order from the public health authority—CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale—to remain indoors.

"This is the first time that we have executed this type of warrant," said police spokesperson Sandra Dion.

The local authorities acted in accordance with Quebec's Public Health Act which grants broad powers to ensure public safety. Quebec is currently in the midst of a 10-day public health emergency

"We will use all the required and necessary measures at our disposal to ensure compliance," CIUSSS said.
