NEW: Tulsi Gabbard tells Charlie Kirk she'd be honored to be Trump's VP

Speaking with Charlie Kirk on Friday, former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard said she would be "honored" to be Trump’s vice president.

"If he asks me to serve alongside him, I would be honored to do so, to serve my country in that way and to bring the experience and, frankly, the strength and courage that comes from that experience, to bring about the real transformational change that I know he seeks to bring about to our country's government and that our country actually needs," said Gabbard.

"To take border security seriously, actually secure our border, to root out the corruption that is so deeply entrenched in so many of our government institutions, and bring about what is truly a government of, by, and for the people. Too many politicians in Washington, you know, they'll try to tweak around the edges and make it sound like they've done something to bring about some real change but the rot is deep, and we need leaders of courage who will stand up to the pressures of the Washington establishment that comes from both parties to do what's right and make sure that our government is actually focused on serving the well being of the American people, rather than seeing us as their minions who only exist to serve them and their interests," she added.

Trump has stated that he would announce his vice president pick before the Republican National Convention in July. "I'll be picking, but probably not too much before the convention, which I happen to be having in the great state of Wisconsin."

Gabbard served as a representative for the state of Hawaii from 2013 to 2021, and previously ran to become the Democratic Party's nominee in 2020. 

In October 2022, Gabbard announced that she was leaving the Democratic Party.

"I can no longer remain in today's Democratic Party that's under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers who are driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoking anti-white racism, who actively worked to undermine our God-given freedoms that are enshrined in our Constitution, who are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, demonize the police will protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans who believe in open borders, who weaponize the national security state to go after their political opponents. And above all, were dragging us ever closer to nuclear," Gabbard said.

"Now I believe in a government, that's of the people, by the people, and for the people," she went on. "Unfortunately, today's Democratic Party does not. Instead, it stands for a government that is of, by, and for the powerful elite. I'm calling on my fellow common sense independent-minded Democrats to join me in leaving the Democratic Party. If you can no longer stomach the direction that the so-called woke Democratic Party ideologues are taking our country. I invite you to join me."
