The immediate past president of Canadian Medical Association has sternly warned Canadians about the impact of coronavirus, saying that Canada does not have enough ICU beds to deal with the pandemic.

Dr. Gigi Osler, who is the past president in question, said that “there are 37.59 million people in Canada and it is estimated that 30 to 70 percent of the population will get sick with coronavirus. If we take the low percentage of 30 percent, that will equal 11,270,000 people.”

Osler went on to say that “it is estimated that 5 percent of people who are sick with coronavirus will need ICU admission: equal to 563,850 people. There are roughly 3,100 ICU beds in Canada and they are most full right now.”

“This is why my nursing and medicine colleagues are so concerned right now.”

Prime Minister Trudeau announced during a press conference on Monday that he will be drastically restricting travel in and out of Canada, essentially closing all sea and air borders, whilst keeping the border with the United States open.

Further measures are expected in order to try and curb the amount of infections in Canada.
