Martin Scorsese's upcoming documentary series, "Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints," is set to premiere on Fox Nation in November, with the first four episodes airing initially and the remaining episodes to follow in 2025. The series will consist of eight one-hour episodes focusing on Christian saints, including Joan of Arc, Francis of Assisi, John the Baptist, and Mary Magdalene.
Scorsese, known for his acclaimed films such as “Taxi Driver” and “The Wolf of Wall Street,” expressed his deep connection to the stories of the saints and his excitement about the project. He highlighted the diverse backgrounds and struggles of the saints as they followed the way of love revealed by Jesus' teachings.
“I've lived with the stories of the saints for most of my life, thinking about their words and actions, imagining the worlds they inhabited, the choices they faced, the examples they set.” Scorsese said in a statement about the documentary.
“These are stories of eight very different men and women, each of them living through vastly different periods of history and struggling to follow the way of love revealed to them and to us by Jesus' words in the gospels.”
“I'm so excited that this project is underway, and that I'm working with so many trusted and talented collaborators,” Scorsese added.
Scorsese is no stranger to making entertainment centered around Christianity. In 1988, he directed “The Last Temptation of Christ,” a film that depicted Christ’s struggle with temptation, but received backlash from many Christian groups.
Additionally, Scorsese has revealed plans for an 80-minute theatrical film centered on Jesus Christ, aiming to present a narrative that counters “the negative onus of what has been associated with organized religion."
This project aligns with Fox Nation's efforts to expand its entertainment offerings for conservative audiences since its inception in 2018. Previous content includes Roseanne Barr's comedy special "Cancel This!" and "Piers Morgan Uncensored."
