A Liberal MP involved in an emergency debate in parliament discussing the SNC-Lavalin political interference has a husband who works at the company.

The Public Registry of the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner lists Alexandra Mendes' spouse's source of income as "Employment income with SNC Lavalin/Qualitas".

I still don't understand what is wrong with something that was not illegal, that was absolutely in the nature of a law that had been passed in the previous budget. I really don't understand what's the big deal about this," said Alexandra Mendes on Thursday.

The connection shines a light on the MP's comments and indicates a certain bias at the heart of the SNC-Lavalin affair.

Several members of the PMO and Liberal government are accused of politically interfering with the Justice System to secure a deferred prosecution agreement for the company to avoid criminal prosecution.

The deferred prosecution agreement law was passed in an omnibus bill which the MP refers in her comments.
