Left-wing MP freaks out over gun control after Alex Jones endorses Pierre Poilievre

"Been following this guy for years and he is the real deal! Canada desperately needs a lot more leaders like him and so does the rest of the world," Jones wrote.

An endorsement from Alex Jones of Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre prompted far-left New Democratic Party MP Charlie Angus to ask the Trudeau government if it was still committed to banning AR-15 rifles in Canada.

Referring to the weapon, Angus said during Monday’s Question Period, “That's the weapon that was used to murder 20 six-year-old children at Sandy Hook. And yet on Thursday, the Conservative leader was tweeting that the government wasn't going after the AR-15, but hunting rifles.”

“So little wonder he gets endorsed by Alex Jones, who's notorious for taunting the families of children murdered by the AR-15. So will the minister confirm: Is the government going after hunting rifles or the AR-15? Or is this the Conservative leader being the quote, ‘real deal of disinformation for the likes of Alex Jones?”

Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc responded that he shared “our colleague's concern about the Conservative policy with respect to gun control. We have said from the beginning, law-abiding hunters and sports persons are not the subject of these regulations. Mr. Speaker, what we're doing is taking away guns that were designed to kill people on the battlefield,” LeBlanc continued.

On Thursday, prominent commentator Alex Jones reposted a statement from Poilievre where the Conservative leader castigated Prime Minister Justine Trudeau for not respecting democratic values.

“Been following this guy for years and he is the real deal! Canada desperately needs a lot more leaders like him and so does the rest of the world,” Jones noted on X.

In the clip featured on X, Poilievere stated: “Justin Trudeau is not a liberal. It might surprise you to hear me say that. He's not a liberal. Liberals used to believe in liberty. And conservatives believed in conserving it. That was the common sense consensus we had in Canada.”

“Justin Trudeau does not believe in liberty. He believes in government control. He wants to control your money. He wants to control your kids. He wants to control the economy, control your speech, control your bank account. He wants to control everything that is illiberal. It's the opposite of liberalism,” Poilievre continued.

“I don't want to run your life. I want to run your government -- and a government that does a few things well, rather than a lot of things poorly; a government that minds its own business and lets people live their lives. That is the traditional common sense consensus that liberals and conservatives believed in for a century and a half until Trudeau.”

Angus announced last week that he would not be seeking another term of office in the 2025 federal election. He recently introduced a private member’s bill that would make it illegal to promote fossil fuels.
