A new book out later in May has revealed that then-Vice President Kamala Harris’ aides held a "mock soiree" for their boss over their concerns about Harris navigating social events. This mock event came ahead of an intimate 2022 DC dinner party.
Per the New York Post, co-authors Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper wrote in the book Original Sin that Harris’ advisors had made it a dry run, opting not to serve wine to see if she could "practice with a glass or two."
The "salon-style dinner" took place at the home of media mogul David Bradley, and no reports of awkward moments at the dinner have emerged, the outlet reported.
The authors described Harris as a "regular headache" for the White House, adding, "She often shied away from politically tough assignments when Biden had accepted such assignments as vice president. She even turned down seemingly simple asks, such as headline DC’s Gridiron Club dinner."
The book later added, "Many on the Biden team felt that Harris didn’t put in the work and was also just not a very nice person. Several quietly expressed buyer’s remorse: They should have picked [Michigan Gov. Gretchen] Whitmer” as Biden’s running mate in the 2020 election, who was reportedly one of the two finalists for contention.
The book, out May 20, also outlines how aides feared another fall from Joe Biden after a 2023 fall at the Air Force Academy and weighed putting him in a wheelchair after the election, should he have won.
Biden’s physician Kevin O’Connor also said privately that given Biden’s age, “If he had another bad fall, a wheelchair might be necessary for what could be a difficult recovery," the book stated.
