A joint statement is being prepared by the United States and Canada that will announce a suspension of travel between the countries during the coronavirus outbreak. Trade will continue, but travel for leisure will be restricted.

According to CNN, the suspension will be announced within 24-48 hours. Unlike a travel ban, this agreement would be presented as mutual. The agreement is expected to be flexible in order to accommodate for commerce between the two nations.

"The Canadians have been our friends throughout this and many other crises, and they continue to be honest brokers," a White House source told CNN.

President Trump has described the US-Canada relationship as "very strong."
