The war between Israel and Hamas broke out October 7, 2023 when Hamas terrorists slaughtered around 1,200 Jews in Israel and took over 200 hostages. Since then, Israel has been fighting to get the hostages back as well as eliminate Hamas.
The announcement from Trump also comes on the heels of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran—a large state sponsor of terrorism in the Middle East—after the US dropped a number of bunker-busting bombs and missiles on Iran's nuclear facilities. After the US strikes, Iran launched a weak response in comparison, with only few missiles being shot at a US military base in Qatar and no deaths or injuries were reported.
Trump then called for a ceasefire last month between Israel and Iran, which has held. The conflict between the two nations started when Israel launched an attack one day after Trump's 60-day deadline he set for Iran to make a deal to cease ambitions with nuclear materials.
