“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

– Nelson Mandela

Education is an important part of who we are as individuals. It defines the way we look at the world. How we approach difficult issues. But most importantly it defines how we lead our lives and the lives of others.

To hold the office of the Prime Minister is a job of humble public service which requires years of experience and education. This education and experience have helped the likes of Sir John A. MacDonald found a nation, John Diefenbaker to build everlasting relations with the United States and Pierre Trudeau (father of Justin Trudeau) navigate the FLQ (Front de libération du Québec) crisis and alongside Quebec separatism.

So how does Trudeau stack up in front of Canada’s former Prime Ministers?

Law and the Office of The Prime Minister

A Degree in Law is not exotic to the Office of the Prime Minister. The founder of Canada and Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald held two law degrees. He held a Doctorate of Law (L.L.D) and a Doctorate of Civil Law (D.C.L). Every Prime Minister has held a degree in Law except for Alexandre Mackenzie, John Thompson, Mackenzie Bowell, Robert Borden, Joe Clark, Stephen Harper and Justin Trudeau.

However, Thompson and Borden have been found to have attempted to pursue a career in Law.

It should also be noted most of these Prime Ministers who did not choose a career in law took office from 1873 to 1920. After Borden, only Joe Clark, Stephen Harper and Justin Trudeau did not have a degree in law.

Impressively educated Prime Ministers

Dr William Lyon Mackenzie King impressively had a Masters of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy from Harvard University. Not only did he have two outstanding degrees from Harvard, but he also had a Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Arts from the University of Toronto. Like many of his predecessors and successors, King held a degree in Law as well (Bachelors of Laws) from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Like King the father of Justin Trudeau, Pierre Elliot Trudeau was a Harvard Alumni as well. Many claim Trudeau Sr. was an academic and his educational background supports that. He held a Doctor of Law degree from Université de Montréal and a Masters of Arts in Political Economy from Harvard University. He then went on to start a doctorate study at the London School of Economics. He never finished the study but went on to be one of the longest serving Prime Ministers in Canadian history.

Even though John Turner was Prime Minister for a couple of months, he earned his Law degree and Masters of Arts from the prestigious Oxford University.

Trudeau, the Teacher

Compared to Justin Trudeau’s predecessors, Trudeau has a different educational background. Trudeau started his post-secondary journey at McGill University in which he earned his Bachelors of Arts in literature in 1994.

He then went on to earn his Bachelors in Education at the University of British Columbia in 1998. After graduating Trudeau started his teaching career in Vancouver British Columbia. He then went on to attempt an Engineering Degree at Polytechnique Montréal in 2002. However, he completed one year of the program before dropping out.

In 2004 Trudeau went on to start a Masters degree in Environmental Geography.

Like his attempt at an Engineering Degree, he completed one year and then dropped out. Other than Trudeau’s career as a politician and a teacher, he worked as a club bouncer and a white-water rafting instructor.

After analysis, Trudeau’s educational background is quite distinctive compared to other modern Canadian Prime Ministers.

The likes of Martin, Mulroney and Chretien had a background in Law.

Stephen Harper had a profound background in economics as he had a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and a Masters of Arts in Economics.

Some people take this distinct background an absence of leadership.

Nonetheless, some see Trudeau’s different educational background as a positive. They claim it gives the office of the Prime Minister a different perspective and a different skill set that could be advantageous.

  1. You cannot use the words “skill set” and “Justin Trudeau” in the same sentence as they are unrelated.

  2. It simply proves the obvious fact. Justin trudeau is a dumbass who couldn’t even manage the local convenience store. Hes only PM because of his God given looks, and the fact that his dad was Pm.

  3. Lack of education is only one problem of many for this unqualified pm. His support of terrorists and a belief system that would anilate us all is a bigget concern

  4. Here is one India.
    A canadain disruntled.

    Latest in the news,
We finally get a lead on that designer who made all those Indian wardrobe clothing.
A fast estimate states 6 seamstress, 100 hours of precision laced fabrication with jewelery. Totalling roughly $14, 000 an outfit. 6 different outfits totalling in the 100’s of thousands of dollars. I will be a monkeys uncle. Politicians are suppose to cover their own clothing.
Since it was out sourced commission work from the goverment. Who pays for it?
If Canadians paid for these dresses then belong to the Canadain people. Lets donate them to Mother of Theresa’s poor in Calcutta. What is going on. Enough with the joke. Tax payers robbed again! Not a cent in the budget for the Senoirs. Work 44 years and your dog. It is not fast enough to see this idiot go!

  5. While Trudeau is educated, it’s in the “softer” subjects, and while he probably made a fabulous teacher, and probably could have had a successful career as a youth counselor or social worker, he does not have the skills from his education or from his personality to run a business, create laws or run an entire G8 country.

    1. He obviously didn’t make a fabulous teacher as he never ever got a permanent teacher’s job. He was a supply teacher . With his name and pedigree, the fact that he couldn’t get a job as a teacher tells everything about his quality.

  6. He is nothing more than a B grade actor. In time after people come to their senses he will be know as the worst Canadian Prime Minister ever. He is so fake as well, his liberal good heart is so apparently fake. We consider him a modern day Village Idiot. Scary that people actually voted for this Dotard, he scares me more than Trump.

  7. I think his lack of education is one of the problems in how he is running this country, he has no idea of the law, of ethics or of economics. But, more is his lack of any experience running a company, having employees, meeting day to day expenses, paying taxes, hiring or firing of those employees. He is completely incompetent, nice hair and good looks have little to do with it and because of his lack of knowledge or expertise in anything, he is being directed from behind the scenes, by those who may have their own interests and not Canada’s best interests at heart.

  8. Stupid is as stupid does. He’s a dropout at most things in life. Just wish he would drop off the face of the earth. An embarrassment to Canada.

  9. It’s pathetic. Might as well be a high school dropout.

Though I guess it’ll be ok when a tradesmen runs for the prime minister’s office

  10. Trudeau failed on multi trade can not work hand on a task, no way this man should be leading this country, he was a drama teacher the only thing I have for Justin back to the basic and sweep the floor.

  11. Being a two-time dropout and a bouncer and a whiteboard rafting instructor and only a part-time teacher does not a prime minister make as a matter of fact as someone who would hire people I would never have hired this man considering the number of times he is not held a full-time job. The awful thing about this is he’s making all as hardworking teachers look stupid because if you’re a full-time teacher you realize your job is just as hard as that of prime minister that must be why he has to take so many vacations because he was only a part-time teacher

  12. Justin Trudeau has neither the education, skill nor common sense required to run a country. Justin, a classic narcissist, is an immature incompetent fool who is single headedly running Canada into the ground. Without doubt he is THE worst Prime Minister Canada has ever had and probably ever will have.

  13. Yah Trudeau is different for sure a drop out because he’s rich born with a silver spoon up his ass doesn’t know what a hard days work is.

  14. I’m not a fan of politicians that are lawyers, sure, you do have some good ones, but overall they are part of the Law Society, which is political in it’s own right, and that Law Society culture bleeds into provincial and federal politics.

  15. JT is a creation of the liberal spin doctors and the CBC playing to the liberal past. Plus the outside sources that had to have trudeau. Harper never would have allowed the pipelines east and west to be stopped. Canada would be a different place today if harper had stayed in power.

  16. Education has absolutely no bearing on intelligence. That is just a fact. That said, they don’t come any dumber than Trudeau.

  17. Justin Trudeau has been a disaster for Canada but I don’t think it’s his lack of an LLD but common sense. He is of puerile mind and has embarrassed our country on both the National and International stage. Justin Trudeau is and was ill prepared to be in the position of Prime Minister and his ego won’t allow him to conduct himself in a manner to correct his immature approach to the position. I’m surprised there hasn’t been a putsch here in Canada but Canadians as a whole are complacent. I for one cannot wait until October 2019 to vote this incompetent out of office.

  18. He’s an accomplished, privileged narcissist. He has no depth. No character and in way over his head. As evidenced by his irresponsible immigration tweet, he has no awareness of potential results of his own ill thought out actions.

  19. His educational background does represent a different perspective – one of lack of discipline, lack of commitment, lack of completion. He is uniquely unprepared for his role and demonstrates his absent capacity regularly.

  20. Ummm, ah, um. If you think he is cute, want to grow your own and smoke pot, think he is going to make good on refugee promises – the you got what you deserve! He is going to put Canadians into a worse situation than his father did. We worked hard all our lives and don’t deserve what this idiot is doing to Canada!
