It seems like the Prime Minister is dedicated to creating a full-blown border crisis as a new report in the Toronto Star states that “starting next week, asylum-seekers arriving through the Canada-United States border could be fast-tracked to shelters and services in Ontario if that is their preferred destination.”
While this may sound like the “humanitarian” action to take, in reality, it only makes matters worse.
Firstly imagine how this will look to people thinking of crossing illegally.
Not only do people who enter into Canada illegally get access to work permits, welfare payments, they are now able to start picking where they want to go, and then get transported there at the expense of Canadian taxpayers.
Next look at the rate of rejections, last year, about 20,000 people crossed the border at Roxham Road.
A large portion of them were Haitians, many of whom spoke French and feared the loss of a protected status they had in the United States. In 2017, Haitians had a 25-per-cent acceptance rate for their claims, down from the average level of about 50 per cent. By the end of last year, federal officials said nine in 10 cases were being rejected.
Like earlier tweets from the Prime Minister which welcomed all refugees, this action will only increase the incentive for people in desperate situations to make this crossing, only to realize that they are not, in fact, a refugee, and will soon be deported.
To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada

This is problematic for real asylum seekers, legal immigrants, and every Canadian taxpayer who is stuck paying for this farce. If the Prime Minister wants to help fix this issue I urge him to begin taking this matter seriously. Move away from platitudes and speeches, and begin to take action.
It’s time to stop playing for media time, and start playing in the interests of Canadians.
