While speaking at the Manning Networking Conference, Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer called the claims that his party panders to hate groups "completely baseless".

"People know that the Conservative Party is open and welcoming," he said. "We denounce any elements of society that would promote hate speech."

Mainstream media outlets have hounded the Conservative party leader for "inadequate" condolences after the New Zealand shooting and for speaking before the United We Roll truck convoy on Parliament Hill.

Scheer criticized Liberals and pundits for using the tragedy to "score cheap political points in a disgusting manner".

Shortly after the shooting, Scheer visited a mosque in Regina to discuss the shooting and its aftermath.
