Groups C and D wrapped up.
France and Croatia were group winners, while Denmark and Argentina were group runners-up.
France will face Argentina (Saturday, June 30), and Croatia will face Denmark (Sunday, July 1).
DEN v FRA
The two teams progressing from Group C played out the first scoreless draw of the tournament. The halftime news that Peru was beating Australia took the pressure off Denmark to score, and neither side looked very motivated to win. It was not worth it for either side to risk injury to claim the top spot in the group, especially as the Group D standings still hung in the balance.
Mathias Jorgensen was carded but will not be suspended.
- DEN 0-0 FRA
AUS v per
Australia needed a win and a France win in the other game in order to progress. They lost to an already eliminated Peru, so both teams will be heading to the airport.
- AUS 0-1 per (18′ Carillo)
- AUS 0-2 per (50′ Guerrero)
NGA v ARG
Argentina went though on an 87th minute goal. They looked better than in previous matches, but down in the tactical area, it is starting to look like Jorge Sampaoli is beginning to lose his mind. He refused handshakes for the 3rd game in a row, and celebrated his team’s goal by gloating in front of the Nigerian bench. It is no wonder he commands no respect from his players. Nobody will want to be in Nigeria’s group in 2022, as most of their players will likely return.
Javier Mascherano, Ever Banega, and Lionel Messi were carded, but none of them will be suspended.
- NGA 0-1 ARG (14′ Messi)
- NGA 1-1 ARG (51′ Moses penalty)
- NGA 1-2 ARG (87′ Rojo)
ISL v CRO
A last minute goal allowed Croatia to claim all 9 points in Group D.
Marko Pjaca and Tin Jedvaj were carded, but neither will be suspended.
- ISL 0-1 CRO (53′ Badelj)
- ISL 1-1 CRO (76′ Sigurdsson penalty)
- ISL 1-2 CRO (90′ Perisic)
