Police arrest man who allegedly committed and recorded sexual assaults on minors in Toronto churches
Toronto police have arrested a man they believe to have filmed acts of sexual assault against at least three children.
According to CTV News, William Christopher Claveria, 32 years-old, has allegedly been using two of Toronto’s Filipino community churches to record his acts of violence.
Claveria is said to have later published his videos online. Toronto Police Det. Const. Don Bai has described the suspects victims as “pre-pubescent.”
Although three sexual assault victims have already been identified by Toronto Police, the department has evidence of other unidentified victims.
Speaking to the public, Bai said, “I have pictures and videos of children who had interactions with Mr. Claveria who I would like to identify.”
However, of the identified victims they have all been confirmed as safe.
Claveria will be appearing in court Friday at 1000 Finch Avenue, the same street as Jesus Reigns Forever International Ministry, one of the two churches where Claveria is accused of committing these assaults.
“I’ve spoken to the pastors of both churches,” Bai said. “I know they are talking [with their] members.
“The Filipino community—they’re very trusting in nature and they welcomed him into their family… They trusted him—he had access to their children and I believe he used this trust and broke this trust,” Bai added.
Facebook provided information to US law enforcement that a user was distributing child pornography. This information was passed to the RCMP and later to the Toronto Police.
On June 12, Toronto Police raided Claveria’s home, discovering a number of devices with videos and images of sexual assaults.
As Bai commented, his department still has “a lot of evidence to go through” and is still in the “early stages” of their “investigation.”
In a post on Twitter, the Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes Unit has asked that “more victims” get in contact with Bai through 416-808-8500.
