Multiple Deaths After Pedestrians Rammed By Van In Toronto

A number of deaths and injuries are being reported after pedestrians were struck by a white van which attempted to flee the scene in Toronto, police say.

Toronto police said the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Monday in the area of Yonge Street and Finch Avenue.

The subway service has been shut down for the meantime

Toronto police now say they have arrested the driver.


Update 1: Stephen Powell, district chief for Toronto Fire, confirmed that there have been multiple casualties.
Update 2: Toronto Mayor John Tory said there was a tragic incident on Yonge Street.
“My thoughts are with those affected by this incident and the front-line responders who are working to help those injured,” he said.
Update 3: 5 individuals have been confirmed dead so far.

Update 4: Video of the moments before the capture are now online.

Update 5: 9 people have been confirmed as deceased, and 16 more as injured.
Update 6: A large section of the road is expected to be closed for multiple days.
