Asking Dr Jamal Badawi if the Muslim Brotherhood exists in Canada is like asking Pablo Escobar if Columbia has a cocaine problem.
The answer will be self-serving.
The Muslim Brotherhood is the largest of all the political Islamic groups (Islamists).
Along with its front groups, the Muslim Brotherhood has been listed as a terrorist entity in Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Russia. The United Kingdom says that membership of, association with, or influence by the Muslim Brotherhood should be considered as a possible indicator of extremism.
With respect to the presence of the Muslim Brotherhood in Canada, the Toronto Star has printed that the Muslim Brotherhood does not exist in Canada or the USA.
A 2015 piece by Haroon Siddiqui, the Toronto Star’s editorial page editor emeritus, stated that: “Muslim Brotherhood is not a registered entity in Canada or the USA, nor does it have any branch in North America.”
For this assessment, Mr Siddiqui was quoting Dr Jamal Badawi.
What Siddiqui of the Toronto Star did not mention was that Dr Badawi is a member of the North American Muslim Brotherhood’s Shura Council, according to the Muslim Brotherhood itself.
During the Holy Land Relief Fund terrorism trial in the USA, a document was entered into evidence that showed the entire Shura Council of the Muslim Brotherhood in North America.
This included several Canadians, including Dr Jamal Badawi.
Dr Lorenzo Vidino is probably the leading expert on the Muslim Brotherhood outside of the Middle East. During his testimony to the Canadian Senate in May of 2015, Dr Vidino was reported as warning that the Muslim Brotherhood movement has planted its revivalist interpretation of Islam, political ideology, and activism among Muslims here in Canada.
He also testified that the Muslim Association of Canada, the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) and Islamic Relief Canada are all Muslim Brotherhood front groups.
Islamic Relief Canada’s parent organization, Islamic Relief Worldwide was listed as a terrorist entity by the United Arab Emirates.
Additionally, he stated that the now-defunct International Relief Fund for the Afflicted and Needy (IRFAN) was also a Muslim Brotherhood front. IRFAN lost its charitable status for funding terrorism in 2011 and was declared to be a terrorist entity in Canada in 2014.
The Muslim Brotherhood
The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna. He believed that “It is the nature of Islam to dominate, not to be dominated, to impose its law on all nations and to extend its power to the entire planet.” Unfortunately, this goal has the consequence of putting Muslim Brotherhood followers into conflict and competition with those who do not submit to their cause.
The Muslim Brotherhood in North America also makes their views clear. In their 1991 Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood in North America the following statement was made:
“The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization-Jihadist Process’ with all the word means. The Ikhwan [Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers…”
Clearly, our government and media need to admit that Canada, like more than 80 other nations, has a Muslim Brotherhood problem.
