Free Speech Advocate Lindsay Shepherd To Emcee Abortion Debate At Laurier This Thursday

A debate titled, “Abortion: Whose Body? Whose Choice?” is being hosted by Laurier LifeLink, the pro-life club at Wilfrid Laurier University.

The debate, supported by the National Campus Life Network and the Laurier Society For Open Inquiry, is between late-term abortionist Dr. Fraser Fellows and Oriyana Hrycyshyn of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform.

It is to be moderated by National Post columnist and The Post Millennial contributor Barbara Kay, with Lindsay Shepherd serving as the MC.

A question and answer period will follow the debate, which will be housed in the Bricker Academic Building, Room 101 on Laurier’s Waterloo campus.

The debate is the second event of the Unpopular Speaker series the newly formed Laurier Society for Open Inquiry (LSOI) has put on.

The first event hosted by the group, which featured controversial speaker Faith Goldy, faced a large blowback on campus and was ultimately shut down due to a fire alarm being pulled.

LSOI, which was co-founded by Shepherd, was created for the very purpose of encouraging free speech and debate on any topic.

A debate on the topic of abortion, which has long been a controversial social issue in Canada, will most likely face similar protests and blowback.

It will be interesting to see if the people protesting will allow a peaceful debate on this emotionally charged subject to proceed.

That being said, the event has created a large interest from those who are in favour of supporting free speech and listening to a respectful debate on this topic.

The event has now reached maximum capacity and is sold out.

Stay tuned for more coverage from us here at The Post Millennial on what is shaping up to be a very interesting event in the fight for freedom of speech on campus.
