DZSURDZSA: Canadian politicians need to recognize the threat that is Antifa

Groups that openly declare themselves to be “militant” and “revolutionary” should not be taken lightly and have no place in Canadian society. It is a shame that both Jagmeet Singh and Andrea Horwath don’t publicly call out domestic terror groups like Antifa.

Imagine being at home, your husband is away at work and it’s after dark. You’re minding your own business and then suddenly your house is filled with the sound of somebody pounding on your front door. The banging doesn’t stop but it gets more aggressive as somebody body slams themselves into your front door. Your front door is cracked and the pounding is now accompanied by an angry mob chanting “We know where you sleep at night!”. This is what happened to Tucker Carlson’s wife on Wednesday night.

Antifa is a threat to the free press

The perpetrators were a violent Antifa mob, egged on by an extremist “anti-hate” group. Smash Racism DC participated in what is without a doubt, an act of political violence meant to target a media figure. They plotted to physically threaten Tucker Carlson and his family until they would flee the city. D.C. police are currently investigating the incident as a hate crime. We must realize as a society that when reporters are being threatened and silenced by an angry mob for saying what they think, something has gone terribly wrong.

Antifa is a threat to Canada

Tactics like those employed by Smash Racism DC are nothing new and they’re not exclusive to the U.S. They are being employed here in Canada as well. Earlier this month during the controversial Munk Debate with Steve Bannon and David Frum, twelve left-wing protestors were arrested and two police officers were physically injured.

Antifa thugs attempted to rush the doors of the event and intimidate event goers, spreading fear and anxiety wherever they went. These events are becoming commonplace in Canada and are a threat to the peace of civil society. Only this last spring another anarchist group took to the streets of Hamilton to terrorize local shop owners by smashing storefronts and lighting explosive fireworks.

Unlike Canada, United States security agencies have at least had the guts to designate Antifa as an active terror group. In this, Canada lags behind.

NDP needs to publicly denounce Antifa

What politicians and unions who co-participate in the antics of Antifa don’t understand is that they are only helping escalate political violence. Political leaders like Jagmeet Singh, who sign off on calls for the cancellation events need to realize that in today’s political scene, this is what cancellation looks like. NDP’s support for the Toronto protests makes them complicit in the violence committed by Antifa against the police officers present at the Munk Debate, all in the name of their supposed “anti-hate”. The danger really begins when leaders turn a blind eye to political violence that is committed towards their own ideological ends. Groups that openly declare themselves to be “militant” and “revolutionary” should not be taken lightly and have no place in Canadian society. It is a shame that both Jagmeet Singh and Andrea Horwath don’t publicly call out domestic terror groups like Antifa.
