Democrats smashed a record when their online fundraising site ActBlue surpassed the $1.5 billion mark for the first time in a single election cycle.
It’s a staggering sum raised mostly from small-dollar donors who used the ActBlue platform to give an average donation of about $40.
The milestone reached on Thursday roughly doubles the platform’s take during the 2016 presidential race.
The sheer volume of donations gives a strong indicator that the party’s base is fired-up.
Republicans acknowledge the advantage that the platform offers.
But what remains to be seen is if the spike in liberal enthusiasm demonstrated by the unprecedented influx of cash will translate into electoral success on Nov. 6.
