Conservatives Would Win Large Majority If Election Held Today

According to a new Forum Research poll posted by the Toronto Sun, the Conservatives would form a dominating government if an election were held today.

Forum found that roughly 46% of voters would cast ballots for Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives, while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s party would receive 30% of the electorate, and only 18% of respondents said they would vote for Jagmeet Singh’s NDP.

“The Conservatives have strengthened their lead over the governing Liberals going into the summer break,” said Lorne Bozinoff, president of Forum Research.

“The prime minister is seeing a high level of disapproval right now that could account for the lack of support for his party.”

The telephone poll — conducted May 15-16– randomly selected 1,484 voters. The results are considered accurate within 3%, 19 times out of 20.

Why Does This Matter?

The poll results put forward by Forum Research continue to support the anti-Trudeau trend which has grown over the last year as more and more individuals pull away from the Prime Minister.

Interestingly enough, the poll places the Scheer Conservatives within reach of the coveted and rarely reached 50% number, while also showing an overall weakness on the Canadian left as both the Liberals and the NDP continue to lose supporters.

The Conservatives might be celebrating these results but should take a moment for worry. While having current lead is good, recent races in Ontario have shown that large leads can be lost rapidly, especially if the Conservative party scares away too much of the population.

In either case, the Liberals and the NDP must be scared and are likely returning to the drawing boards, as more Canadians continue to abandon platforms which lack real results for taxpaying Canadians.
