Sherita Dixon-Cole, a 37-year-old resident of Grapevine, Texas, is at the center of a controversial investigation that has garnered nationwide attention.
In a May 20th altercation with Texas police, she was pulled over for suspected driving while under the influence, from which she was asked to perform a sobriety test by officer Hubbard. Upon the findings of the administered test, the officer’s suspicions were confirmed—Dixon-Cole was intoxicated.
Unfortunately, what should have been a routine stop, turned into a series of malicious attacks towards an otherwise innocent officer of the law—starting with the filling of a false police report, at the hands of the accuser.
Dixon-Cole, who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by the officer in question, told local authorities that she was “forcefully [groped]…inside and outside of his cruiser”.
Upon further review of the nearly two hours of footage from Hubbard’s body camera, Lee Merritt, Dixon-Cole’s attorney, came out and publically apologized on behalf of his client. In his statement, which goes as follows, “It is deeply troubling when innocent parties are falsely accused…I take full responsibility for amplifying these claims to the point of national concern.”
Social activist Shaun King, who initially came to her defense through a series of tweets, has since retracted said tweets upon reviewing the now public footage of the altercation. He writes “She victimized us. She victimized the man she falsely accused and she victimized those who stood up for her”, which all but paints her as the victimizer we now know her to be.
Under Section 37.08 of the Texas Penal Code, the “filing of a false police report is a Class B misdemeanor”. However, charges have yet to be made against her, which is subject to change in the coming days and weeks.
Dixon-Cole has since deleted her LinkedIn and Facebook accounts, following the public outrage that has amassed her way, and rightfully so.
