$33 million given to Afghan Veterans but our soldiers ask for too much?

A 2017 story published by the Toronto Star is now resurfacing in light of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s infamous comment towards a veteran at a Town Hall in Edmonton that many found unpopular.

In 2017 The Toronto Star reported that Canada would give $33 Million to Afghan Veterans.

The Star Confirms that the Foreign Affairs Department contributed the money to NATO’s trust fund for the Afghan National Army. The money will help build the Kabul National Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre.

Just last month Trudeau came under fire for saying “ some (Canadian) vets want more than the government can afford.” The Conservatives then followed by pushing a motion last week asking Trudeau to apologize for his comments. The New Democrats and the Conservatives voted yes on the motion while the Liberal Majority voted no.

Heather Forsyth – Former Minister of the Crown, Member of the Legislative Assembly and Leader of the Her Majesty’s Opposition in Alberta -, wrote on Facebook along with the 2017 Article by the Toronto Star, “ I’m holding my tongue right now this is insane. We give 33 million to Afghan vets and we ignore our own veterans.”

It seems like many Canadians share Forsyth’s displeasure with Trudeau’s recent blunders with the latest ISPOS Poll showing Scheer’s Conservatives in the lead while Trudeau’s Liberals and Singh’s Democrats trail second and third respectively.

And how can you blame them? The Canadian government has with one hand extended massive amounts of aid to foreign groups, and with the other, smacked Canada’s most desperate and deserving.

It’s not only in the case of aid for Afghan veterans. In the recently released budget, we found clauses supporting gender inclusivity, $2 billion dollars in new aid for foreign business, and … not much for support Canada’s own workforce.

That’s a problem.

We pay taxes to make sure our government can help protect us, advance our interests, and ultimately to benefit us and our fellow members of society.

That includes the servicemen and woman who do the protecting. Now I don’t believe anyone can argue that a perfect package can be made. Repeated Liberal and Conservative governments have failed.

The thing that is bothersome though is that this sudden economically Conservative view is something that seems to only come up in regards to the armed forces.

10.5 Million for a terrorist? No problem. Modern jets or good pensions? Time for court.

In many ways, it seems like the government is aiming to win foreign approval through your tax dollars, internal approval through virtue signalling, and balance the whole mess on the backs of the Canadian armed forces.

What’re your thoughts on the Liberals performance in helping Veterans? Let us know below!

  • I don't know how ALL the Fiberals in parliament can show their faces in public when they support this clown, and he is no than a clown.

  • They were elected mainly as the Not Steve option, and we chose them to implement Electoral Reform, which was the first thing they dumped right after the election. That broken contract with the voters should have removed them from power and spawned a new election right then.

Next election there is no party acceptable to vote for.

  • Canadians of my age and military service will recall the disastrous days of Pearson then Trudeau in what has correctly been labeled A Sorry Saga in the Canadian Military. We survived but it took 40 years to pay down and then off the debt PE Trudeau left Canadians. It appears that Junior is trying very had to exceed his father's gross actions and run up a debt that my great, great, grandchildren [of which I have more than one] will pay off in about half a century. Such action on the pseudo-prime minister of Canada is not a story fringed in gold and held up as an example of how to govern, rather, it is a prime example of utter stupidly with no apparent plan of how to proceed from A to B in any logic fashion. Canada is the embarrassment that is Justin Trudeau - the face of incompetence.

  • I think this dipshit should make real good friends with the UN cause he's going to need somewhere to hide after he is done screwing this country and it's people, he pisses more people off daily.

  • what I don't seem to get, is the fact that people believe this national debt is the people's responsibility. It's not......this debt is because of bad government and crooked dealings. I say if a priminister puts it's country into debt......he pays it back or goes to jail.
This debt is by no means the people's debt. Priministers who have no accountability should recieve no pay and no pension and be treated no better then the common crook.

  • Hi I am a veteran and I can tell you, not happy at all.

We could be facing serious economic times ahead with our largest trading partner threatening a Trade War.

The last thing we need is a trade war with US. We all lose financially.

    Your article is bang on.

    Canada first!

2019 is just around the corner and we will see what Canadians do.

I sure hope they put a lot of thought into it.

I have kids and I am not happy our tax dollars mishandled in such a manner.

    Budget was a disastrous.

Regardless of what political stripe I want our tax dollars used for Canadians period.

We pay a lot of taxes and it makes me ill to think they are being wasted when parents stuggle to help our kids.

    Not cool!

Think long and hard about 2019.

Your vote does matter, please use it accordingly!

  • This is what happens when you vote in some one that does not have a clue how to manage a country. We need a way tO drain THE FUNDS OUT OF HIS GIANT TRUST FUND.

  • I agree with every comment posted - unfortunately I have no hope for this country with Ont. and Que. swaying the most votes, it's not going to get better soon. JT broke and twisted his promise to Vets now that they've had time to re-shuffled the deck on Vets and the promise they made, now they can say anything to prop up a fake pension plan for life and then-then media lets them get away with it.

Why does the media not get few of our injured Vets who missing limbs, eye's, and there scares, etc. in an interview room have the Vets in tee shirts and shorts, eye patch's off so they show the public what they are not seeing let them see the wounds/scares. The public will pay attention and parliamentarians will have to answer to the public.

  • It's terrible the way the PM and his Liberal party are treating our Vets but it goes much deeper than that. They are slapping every Canadian in the face with their out of control spending that the tax paying working class will have to pay for somewhere down the road. I sure hope the people of Canada who really care about the future of our nation and not just living for the moment without regard for tomorrow will get off their behinds in 2019 and get out and vote so we don't have to sit and watch it all go down the toilet if the Liberals are re-elected. And keep in mind, it's not just the PM who's to blame for the mess we're in, it's the whole Liberal party they are more loyal to JT than they are to all of Canada.

  • I used to live in Canada, back in the '80s, and I am so grateful that I left although I loved it at the time. My new country (Australia) and my old (UK) are trying to become as bad as Canada, but thankfully lack someone witht he w**k**g ability of Trudeau. May God help us all.

  • Just when I think Justine 'Jihadi' Trudeau can't get any stupider, he takes it as a challenge.

  • I want Canadian News outlets to inform Canadians of the different legal ways to terminate this government. Give us our options. There is no way in hell that we should have to sit back and let Trudeau and the Liebrals continue to take us down this road of despair and ruin. The longer we let it go on, the worse it will be. The Trudeau government is not going to stop it's waste and treason. Taxpayers have to stop this out of control megalomaniac Trudeau government. The job of the news is to inform. Well inform us how to get rid of these parasites.

    • You have to have a 100% non confidence vote by the liberal caucus or wait for the next election in 2019
      So who voted him in?
People need to get their head out of the sand and vote!

  • If its too much to ask to look after and care for our wounded vets then maybe they shouldn't have been sent to war in the first place.

  • Hopefully the Conservatives will be able to return the favour that Chretiens Liberals gave to the PC's - destroy the party so that they can build a better, more fair base. Faint Hope???

  • Just another liberal piece of shit that hurts the ones that deserve everything. Your dad would be ashamed Justin. You are a piece of shit thanks for the 58 cents a month not sure what I will do with this windfall. Old age pensioner, Hows india Piece of shit!

  • Yes Justin is a clear & present danger to Canada & Canadians. He is a flip flopping lying Trump mini me.
My fear is that he will send our troops overseas with an inadequate plan & insufficient Rules of Engagement which would make it a suicide mission where the fatalities would be on him

  • There is an old and very wise axiom that states, you must take care of yourself first then your family before you can take care of your neighbor. I guess the liberals forgot that. But I won't come election time. #onetermpm
